(LITTLE FALLS, NJ) Looking to even the series at one game apiece, the visiting Ottawa Rapidz took on the host New Jersey Jackals Saturday night at Yogi Berra Stadium. Despite a solid effort, the Rapidz lost 4-2 for their fourth consecutive loss.
The home team wasted no time scoring, jumping ahead of the visiting Rapidz 3-0 in the first inning. Juan Tejada hit an RBI double with Chris Kelly and Matt Lauderdale both recording RBI singles as the Jackals recorded three runs on five hits in the first inning.
The Rapidz got on the board in the top of the fifth, scoring one run on two hits. Jereme Milons lead off the inning with a double and came around to score on an RBI by Nate Hall to reduce the Jackals lead to 3-1 after five innings.
Ottawa struck again in the top of the eighth inning, scoring to get within one run of the lead. Pete Pirman lead off with a double, advanced to third on a bunt single by Jared Lemieux and then scored on a balk by Jackals relief pitcher Rusty Tucker.
Ottawa starter Adam Hawes (4-8) was credited with the loss for the Rapidz, pitching 5.2 innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits, with two walks and striking out two. Isaac Pavlik (6-4) earned the win for the home Jackals allowing only two runs (both earned) on five hits, with two walks and one strikeout. Rusty Tucker picked up his 17th save of the season for the Jackals.
The final game of the series goes Sunday, August 3 at 5:05pm. Ottawa right hander Tanner Watson (2-4, 5.00 ERA) will try to lead the Rapidz to victory with Aaron Tressler (2-6, 5.83 ERA) starting for the Jackals.
The Rapidz return home on August 4 for a seven-game home stand against the Sussex Skyhawks and the Brockton Rox.
