Chicago Wolves News Release

GLENVIEW, Ill. - The Chicago Wolves are proud to announce that Brett Sterling has been named the team's winner of the IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the Chicago community during the 2016-17 season.

When Sterling returned to the Wolves this summer, his intentions were clear: to win another Calder Cup and make a difference throughout Chicago with his community involvement. The 32-year-old built lasting relationships during his previous two stints with the organization, and this time around, he not only wanted to continue those but explore new avenues.

This year, Sterling was an eager participant in team-wide endeavors such as Get Fed by the Wolves, Brews and Bites and the Wine Tasting fundraiser. However, he made his biggest impact through his season-long Team Up With 29 program.

Initially designed as an initiative for Chicago Wolves Charities, Sterling expanded Team Up With 29 to allow him to help families and patients who need a special moment while battling adversity in their lives. Sterling helped create and fulfill these experiences - dubbed Wolves Wishes - at home games throughout the season.

Sterling is now one of 30 finalists for the AHL's 2016-17 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced by the American Hockey League at a later date.
