Jordan Samuels-Thomas Named Gulls 2016-17 Ioa/American Specialty

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Gulls are proud to announce that Jordan Samuels-Thomas has been named the team's winner of the IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the San Diego community during the 2016-17 season.

Samuels-Thomas has participated in a plethora of charitable endeavors this season, including serving food to the homeless at the San Diego Salvation Army, visiting Rady Children's Hospital to help improve the health of young patients and visiting the Wounded Warrior Project during the holiday season.

Samuels-Thomas has also has volunteered his time to participate in grassroots efforts to promote health and wellness in the community and teach the sport of hockey during street hockey gym classes at local elementary schools affiliated with the YMCA. He has also helped coach youth hockey at the San Diego Salvation Army Kroc Center, a non-profit community center, as part of a skills clinic for children ages six to 14 to help develop young hockey players in the region.

Samuels-Thomas is now one of 30 finalists for the AHL's 2016-17 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced by the American Hockey League at a later date.
