St. John's IceCaps News Release

ST. JOHN'S, NL - The St. John's IceCaps are proud to announce that forward David Broll has been named the team's winner of the IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the St. John's community during the 2016-17 season.

Broll has led the IceCaps in community appearances, serving as a willing and enthusiastic role model for the organization. The 24-year-old has given up countless hours of his personal time to attend team-related events and even arranged his own visits and organized other players to join him for these events. Broll's positive attitude and his willingness to make time for any fan that approaches him has made him a fan favorite on and off the ice.

Broll has taken particular interest in hospital visits. During each home stand, he makes a consistent effort to meet children who are ill or preparing for surgery. Among his many appearances, Broll has made visits to the Janeway children's hospital, Ronald McDonald House and the Vera Perlin Centre, which provides support for individuals with developmental disabilities. Broll shows a genuine interest in children and a sincere desire to help make their day a little bit brighter.

Broll embodies everything that the IceCaps organization stands for. He is an ambassador for the team, the City of St. John's and the entire province of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Broll is now one of 30 finalists for the AHL's 2016-17 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced by the American Hockey League at a later date.
