Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Myrtle Beach used a three-run eighth inning to break a tie and defeat Winston-Salem 4-1 in Wednesday's rubber match at BB&T Ballpark.
With one out in the eighth, Myrtle Beach second baseman David Bote rocked a home run to left field off Manny Martinez (0-1) to break the 1-1 tie. After two hit batters and a walk, Yasiel Balaguert stroked a two-run single to left to make it 4-1. James Farris followed with two hitless innings to secure his second save of the season for the Pelicans (7-7).
Thus, the Dash (4-10) end their opening homestand 1-6 at BB&T Ballpark. The season series between these two teams is now tied 3-3, and both teams have a road series victory against the other.
After being held hitless through the first three innings, the Dash broke through in the fourth. With two outs, Nick Basto walked and Marcus Davis singled to put runners on first and second. Brett Austin then stroked a single into left, scoring Basto and giving the Dash a 1-0 edge.
The Pelicans responded in the next half inning against Dash starter Jordan Stephens. With runners on first and third and one out, David Bote grounded into a fielder's choice, bringing home Daniel Lockhart to make it 1-1.
That would be all the Pelicans scratched across against Stephens. The right-hander was phenomenal in his third High-A start, throwing six innings and allowing only one run while striking out six.
Myrtle Beach's pitching duo of Zach Hedges (1-2) and Farris led the way for the visitors. Hedges allowed four hits and the fourth-inning run over seven innings before Farris' late-game dominance.
Marcus Davis extended his hitting streak to eight games with a 1-for-4 performance. Winston-Salem right-handed reliever Jacob Morris made his second appearance at the High-A level on Wednesday and threw one and a third perfect innings.
The Dash now hit the road for a four-game set against the Salem Red Sox starting on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. Winston-Salem left-hander Blair Walters (0-0, 2.00 ERA) will square off against Salem righty Ben Taylor (0-0, 1.00). Fans can catch the game online at wsdash.com/broadcast or the TuneIn Radio App. The Pregame Dash starts at 6:50 p.m.
The second homestand of the season begins this coming Tuesday, April 26, with an All-You-Can-Eat for Free Night. Fans in attendance will enjoy all the hot dogs and burgers they can handle, and normal ticket prices apply! For tickets, call the Dash at (336) 714-2287 or wsdash.com.
