WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - David Bote's eighth inning home run put the Myrtle Beach Pelicans on top for good Wednesday en route to a 4-1 series-clinching victory over the Winston-Salem Dash at BB&T Ballpark.
Following Bote's home run, Winston-Salem (4-10) reliever Manny Martinez (1-2) hit two batters and walked another to load the bases. Yasiel Balaguert then came through for a two-run single to make the score 4-1 Myrtle Beach.
Zach Hedges (1-2) was outstanding for the Pelicans, working seven innings of one-run ball for the Birds, allowing just one walk and four hits. James Farris worked two hitless innings to earn his second save and seal the four-hitter for the Pelicans.
The game was scoreless until the fourth inning, when Winston-Salem first baseman Nick Basto earned a two-out walk. Marcus Davis and Brett Austin followed with singles to score Basto and put the Dash on top 1-0.
But Myrtle Beach responded when Daniel Lockhart singled with one out in the fifth. After a Cael Brockmeyer base hit, Bote reached on a fielder's choice to drive in Lockhart and tie the game at one.
That was the only run allowed by Dash starting pitcher Jordan Stephens, who struck out seven over six innings. Stephens gave up just four hits.
