Sioux City Explorers News Release
The Sioux City Explorers won the fourth and final game of the series vs the Railcats 4-1 Sunday afternoon. Patrick Johnson continued his success on the mound with only one run allowed in seven innings, while four X's ball-players have two hits or more in the contest.
Neither team scored a run until the sixth inning where the X's bats took fire. Michael Lang crossed home first, singling to start the inning and scoring off an RBI double by Rene Tosoni to give the X's their first run of the game. Explorers shortstop Noah Perio Jr knocked in Tosoni later in the inning with a double of his own. Perio went on to steal third base and score off a Ryan Court grounder to extend the lead 3-0.
Gary SouthShore answered in the bottom half of the sixth plating a run of their own. Railcats right fielder Drew Martinez worked up a one out walk, stole second base and scored off a Jaime Del Valle RBI single to cut the lead 3-1.
In the seventh, newly signed Explorer Brent Keys, worked up a lead-off walk. Keys advanced to second off a Matty Johnson base hit, moved to third on a sac-bunt by Michael Lang, and scored off a sac-fly RBI hit to centerfield by Brock Kjeldgaard.
In the bottom of the ninth, X's right-hander Jose Flores closed it out to get his fourteenth save of the season. Explorers starter Patrick Johnson (9-0) got the win having another fantastic outing on the mound, going seven innings with only one run allowed. Railcats starting pitcher Charle Rosario (9-5) was charged with the loss allowing three runs in six innings.
Explorers had four hitters finish the game with double digit hits. X's second baseman Ryan Court stood out most for Sioux City, going 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Brent Keys, Rene Tosoni and Noah Perio all had two hit nights at the plate as well.
The Explorers will take Tuesday and Wednesday off, and then head to Lincoln for a three game series (July 27-29th) vs the Saltdogs. For additional information, please call 712-277-WINS (9467) or email promotions@xsbaseball.com.
