Saints Roll into Two Day Break on a High Note, Trounce Saltdogs 12-4

ST. PAUL, MN (July 26, 2015) - From the first inning on June 1 until the fifth inning on July 26 St. Paul Saints starter Dustin Crenshaw didn't walk a batter. His incredible streak of 78.0 innings between walks came to an end on Sunday evening at CHS Field, but he became the first American Association pitcher to 10 wins. The Saints pounded out 17 hits and beat the Lincoln Saltdogs 12-4 in front of 8,020. The win improved the Saints to 47-15, maintaining a 19.5 game lead in the North and prevented them from losing their first series of the season as they got a split against the Saltdogs.

With the Saints down 1-0 in the third Ryan Lashley led off with a double. Dan Kaczrowski sacrificed him to third. Alonzo Harris knocked home Lashley with a single to left to tie the game at one. Harris stole second and scored on Willie Argo's single to give the Saints a 2-1 lead. Vinny DiFazio singled to move Argo to second and Ian Gac followed with an RBI single to make it 3-1. With two outs and runners at second and third Mike Kvasnicka added a two-run single to give the Saints a 5-1 lead.

With the Saints leading 6-1 and two outs in the fifth Crenshaw walked his first batter since June 1, when he issued a free pass to Jon Weber of Grand Prairie in the first inning. On a 3-2 pitch he delivered a fastball just outside to Eddie Young for ball four. It ended a streak of 78.0 consecutive innings which surpassed Greg Maddux' National League record of 72.1 innings pitched from June 20, 2001-August 12, 2001. The Major League record is 84.1 innings pitched by Bill Fischer of Kansas City from August 3, 1962-September 30, 1962. The walk by Crenshaw was just his second of the season and he has now pitched 94.0 innings. The walk, just like it did on June 1, came around to score as Mitch Canham tripled home Young to make it 6-2. Curt Smith then crushed a two-run homer to left, his eighth of the season, to make it 6-4.

The Saints offense, however, answered immediately in the bottom of the inning with a four spot. Gac led off with an infield single to third. After a walk to Angelo Songco, Kvasnicka roped a two-run double to left to make it 8-4. Kvasnicka finished 2-4 with a double, four RBI and two runs scored. With one out Lashley tripled home Kvasnicka to make it 9-4. Lashley finished 4-4, a home run shy of the cycle, with an RBI and four runs scored. Dan Kaczrowski extended his career high hitting streak to 12 games with an RBI single to make it 10-4.

The Saints finished their scoring in the eighth on a two-run double by Harris who finished the night 3-5 with two doubles, three RBI, a run scored and a stolen base.

Crenshaw went 7.0 innings allowing four runs on eight hits while walking one and striking out four, improving to 10-1. He became the first pitcher in the league to reach the double-digit win plateau.

The Saints have two days off before resuming play on Wednesday night as they begin a three game series at U.S. Steel Yard against the Gary SouthShore Railcats. The Saints send LHP Pedro Hernandez (5-2, 3.82) to the mound. The game can be heard on Club 1220 KLBB.
