Laredo Lemurs News Release
Laredo, TX - The Laredo Lemurs (34-28) notched a season-high 19 hits en route to a 14-5 win over the Wichita Wingnuts (37-25) on Sunday night. The Lemurs scored 12 runs in the fourth through sixth innings. With the win, the Lemurs earned a series split with the division-leading Wingnuts.
It was a game of streaks, as the Lemurs scored one in the first and one in the second. The second run came from a Juan Silverio solo home run, his seventh longball of the season. The Lemurs also made team history in the second inning, when Silverio, Kevin Taylor and Dustin Geiger turned the first triple play in team history.
Wichita scored once in the third and three runs in the fourth, chasing Lemurs starter Greg Holle after three innings.
Down 4-2 in the bottom of the fourth, the Lemurs responded by sending 10 batters to the plate in a six-run outburst in which they took the lead for good. In that inning, the Lemurs scored two runs on throwing errors by the Wingnuts and launched seven hits.
In the fifth, the Lemurs nearly batted around again, sending 8 hitters to the plate and scoring three more runs. After the Wingnuts scored one in the top of the sixth, the Lemurs held an 11-5 lead.
Jeudy Valdez hit a three-run blast in the bottom of the sixth, his fifth homer of the year, to put the Lemurs up 14-5. That would conclude the game's scoring. Valdez went 3-for-5 with 5 runs batted in. D'Vontrey Richardson and Ty Morrison also knocked in 2 runs each.
Ryan Beckman picked up the win for the Lemurs, who improved to 34-28. Scott Kuzminsky took the loss for the Wingnuts, who fell to 37-25.
The Lemurs will have Monday and Tuesday off before resuming the season on Wednesday in Joplin. The Lemurs are three games out of first place in the South Division.
