YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio- In their third try in as many days, the Youngstown SteelHounds finally defeated the Colorado Eagles 3-2 Sunday afternoon at the Chevrolet Centre. The game marked the first win in nine tries for the SteelHounds against the Eagles in their two-year history. Chris Richards scored the game-winning goal with 4:39 remaining in the final period on a shorthanded goal. David Currie saved 16 of 18 shots in net for the SteelHounds as the Eagles were only able to muster 18 shots for the second straight game. The tide changed when Jeff Alcombrack scored a goal with two seconds remaining in the second period tying the game at two. Riley Nelson scored both of the Eagles goals, both on the power play. He now has a career high 39 goals this season. The Eagles will head home for their final home game of the season Wednesday night against the Lubbock Cotton Kings at the Budweiser Events Center. Riley Nelson got the scoring started at the 17:03 mark of the first period when he scored his 38th goal of the season that broke his career high of 37. Nelson was assisted by Brad Williamson and Greg Pankewicz. Only 20 seconds later, Jeff Christian swept a rebound past Marco Emond to tie the game at one. He was assisted by Stephen Margeson and Mark Odut. The scored remained tied at one after one period. Colorado took a 2-1 lead on Nelson's second power play goal of the game and 39th of the season. Aaron Schneekloth and Brad Williamson assisted on the play. Youngstown answered with just two seconds remaining in the period when Jeff Alcombrack stuffed the puck into the net before the buzzer. The score was tied at two after two periods. Chris Richards scored the lone tally in the third period. The Eagles turned the puck over while on the power play and Richards capitalized with a shorthanded unassisted goal. The Eagles had a few chances to tie the game late in the period, but just fell short. The game was the third straight one-goal game played between the two teams and Youngstown's first win over the Eagles in franchise history.
