Rage Lose in Wichita, 5-2

Wichita - The Wichita Thunder took a 3-0 lead through the first period and never looked back as they defeated the Rocky Mountain Rage, 5-2, at the Kansas Coliseum.

The Thunder jumped the Rage early, out-shooting their visitors, 18-9, through the first 20 minutes. Ryan Lauzon led off the scoring at 6:16 by going coast-to-coast before beating Rocky Mountain goaltender David Guerrera with a backhand. Daniel Tetrault added to the advantage at 12:15 moments after a Thunder power play expired. Jason Duda then struck off the ensuing face-off at 12:26 for the quickest two goals the Rage have allowed this season.

Wichita added to its lead at 8:04 of the second period when Troy Barnes scored on the power play, before the club tacked on its fifth goal of the afternoon at 12:04 off the stick of Steve Dix to put the game out of reach, 5-0. The Rage spoiled goaltender Jon Horrell's shutout bid with just two seconds remaining in the frame after Dominic Noel scored on the power play to pull Rocky Mountain within 5-1 after 40 minutes.

The Rage's John DiPace notched his 13th of the year at 10:09 of the third for the final 5-2 margin.

Rocky Mountain drops to 16-37-7 on the season and remains in fourth place in the Northwest Division with 39 points. They finish their season series with the Thunder with a record of 4-3-1.

The Rage kick-off the final week of the 2006-07 campaign when they host the Oklahoma City Blazers on Tuesday, March 20, at Broomfield Event Center at 7:05 p.m.
