HIDALGO, TX --- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees helped their playoff chances as they scored four first period goals in a 6-4 win over the Memphis RiverKings Sunday at the Dodge Arena in Hidalgo, TX. The loss snapped a five game unbeaten streak for the RiverKings as the team heads home to begin the final week of the regular season with the Tulsa Oilers at the DeSoto Civic Center Tuesday night at 7:05.

Steve Makway, Tyler McGregor, Phil Aucoin and Louis Dumont scored for the RiverKings. Dennis Maxwell and Rob Voltera each had a pair of goals to lead the Rio offense. The win gives the Killer Bees a three point lead over Odessa and a four point lead over Austin for that sixth and final playoff spot in the Southern Conference.

After the teams exchanged goals for a 1-1 tie during the first period, the Bees scored three straight to take a 4-1 lead. Riverkings Aucoin's tally at 13:45 made it 4-2 after one. Dumont's goal at 16:35 of the third cut the Bees lead back to one at 6-5, but Voltera scored his second of the night at 18:16 to put the lead back at two.

Kevin Schieve, who started in net for Memphis and was replaced by Larry Sterling after the fourth Rio goal, took the loss and fell to 5-6-1 on the season.

RiverKings defenseman Derek Landmesser played in his 367th RiverKings game, tying him with Don Parsons for the career franchise record.
