Hounds Defeat Eagles for First Time in a Thriller!
March 18, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Youngstown SteelHounds News Release
Sunday afternoon saw the Hounds finally defeat the Colorado Eagles as the home half of the regular season closed with a thrilling 3-2 Y-Town victory on "Fan Appreciation Day."
Colorado struck first thanks to a power play goal by Riley Nelson at the 17:03 mark of the first period to make it 1-0. It took just 20 seconds after that tally for Jeff Christian to tie the game up at one after one period of play.
Riley Nelson struck gold on the power play again to give the Eagles 2-1 lead with under five minutes to play in the second period but Jeff Alcombrack and Mark Odut teamed up with two seconds to play to tie the game at two at the end of two.
In the third period Chris Richards made a steal at the Colorado blue line and then fired a slap shot past Marco Emond for a short handed goal with 4:39 to play to give the Hounds a 3-2 lead. David Currie made 16 saves on 18 shots to guide the Hounds to their first ever victory over the Colorado Eagles.
The win combined with an Oklahoma City loss to the Amarillo Gorillas now puts the Hounds back in fourth place in the Northern Conference Standings as they improved 32-19-10 (74pts) with one of the biggest regular season victories in team history. The Hounds cannot catch the Memphis RiverKings or the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs for the third seed which means they will start the playoffs on the road with games three, four and five being here at the Chevrolet Centre on April 4th, 5th and 7th . You can get your tickets by calling the Hounds at (330) 747-PUCK, stopping by the Chevrolet Centre, going to steelhounds.com or getix.net.
