Steelheads Wrap up 2018 with a 9-5 Win in Windsor

Facing off against the Windsor Spitfires for their third game in four days, the Steelheads were looking to get back in the win column after a tough 3-2 shoot out loss to the Peterborough Petes Saturday night. After 60 minutes of play, the Steelheads came on top with a 9-5 win.

The New Year Eve matinee match up was a game of firsts. On the Steelheads side of the bench, Matthew Dunsmoor registered his OHL debut picking up the start. Just two minutes into the game, Thomas Harley gets the first goal and first shot on net putting the Steelheads on the board. A minute later, Wells goes bardown to get his first OHL goal in three years. With a hard comeback following the Steelheads second point, Spitfires Sean Allen cuts down the middle and get his first goal of the season. Fast forward two minutes later, the Steelheads kick off their first power play of the afternoon.Then comes McLeod as he takes a shot from the point and Alan Lyszczarczyk picks up the rebound and scores his 17th goal of the season. Last minute in the first period, Steelheads go back on the power play as Cole Schwindt scores. Not ending the period without a fight, Spitfires Cuylle pockets one with 20 seconds left in the first making it 4-2.

After 20 minutes of play, Windsor fills in back-up goalie Colton Incze. Steelheads putting a lot of pressure to start the period, James Hardie picks up the poke check and brings the Steelheads to a 5-2 lead. Shortly after, Spitfires point leader Purboo scores on the power play. Bringing the game to a one goal difference is Spitfires Matthew MacDougall. Before wrapping up the second period comes Ryan Wells for his second goal of the game.

Coming off a hot start to the third period is Spitfires Tyler Angle on the power play 10 seconds in. Steelheads also complete a goalie change with the score sitting at 6-5. With Ingham out of the lineup, Joe Ranger steps into the crease. Right behind the Spitfires fifth and final is Thomas Harley for the insurance goal and his second of the game. It was not over yet, before the 60-minute mark hits is Ryan McLeod and Liam Ham with two more making it a 9-5 final in Windsor, ON.

The Steelheads are back in action at the PMC in Peterborough on Thursday night before hitting the 401 visiting the Oshawa Generals on Friday. The Steelheads will then return to the PFFC January 6th at 2:00 PM against the Petes for our fourth and final face-off in regular season.
