OHL Sarnia Sting

Knights Get Revenge on Sting

December 31, 2018 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Sarnia Sting News Release

The Sarnia Sting visited the London Knights on Monday afternoon.

It was the second game of our annual New Year's home-and-home. As the sixth meeting between the two teams this year, it was also the last regular season matchup we'll have with the Knights this season.

Fans were treated to a rowdy game at Budweiser Gardens. Unfortunately for fans supporting the Sting, the dominoes just didn't quite fall in Sarnia's direction today.

London had the lone goal of the first period. With the Knights on a powerplay, Josh Nelson sent a hard shot off the right pad of Sting goaltender Cameron Lamour. The puck bounced out to Connor McMichael, who had an open cage to shoot at. 1-0.

In the second frame, things got heated. A pair of goals from London forward Nathan Dunkley gave the home side a 3-0 scoreboard advantage. But the story of the period was physical play. Both sides were involved in numerous scrums that saw a bevy of penalties handed out. The penalty box doors were certainly busy. For the Sting, the scrums provided a spark.

Sarnia defenceman Nick Grima got us going. Sean Josling created a chance in front of Knights goalie Joseph Raaymakers and the puck shot out above the crease. Grima was there, corralled it while spinning around, and sent the puck into the twine. It was now a 3-1 game.

Moments later, Nelson scored for London to give the Knights a 4-1 lead heading to the third.

In the third period, things quieted down. The two teams were a little more reserved heading towards the final buzzer, though London did add a few more goals.

McMichael picked up his second of the game on a fly by after a rush from Nelson. 5-1.

Knights defenceman Joey Keane added London's third powerplay goal of the day to make it 6-1. Cole Tymkin made it 7-1 with five minutes to play.

Lamour was solid between the pipes this afternoon, turning aside thirty-nine shots.

The official box score can be viewed here.
