Idaho Steelheads News Release

BOISE, Idaho - New uniforms, a new website, and "A New League of Action Heroes" will usher the Idaho Steelheads Hockey Club into their 2003-04 inaugural ECHL season. The first game will be played on October 17th against the expansion Las Vegas Wranglers at the Bank of America Centre.

"A New League of Action Heroes" are seven characters that depict the energy and excitement surrounding the Steelheads. The Heroes - Slapshot, Blade, Rookie, Knuckles, Dentist, and Brick Wall - are based on classic hockey stereotypes and have unique personalities. They join long-time team mascot Bonk, in the new League. The characters were developed by the Steelheads' advertising company MMG and local artist Matt Brundage, and will appear throughout the season on pocket schedules, yearbooks, newspaper ads and other promotional materials.

The Steelheads also previewed their new website (www.idahosteelheads.com), which will go online early next week. Built by the Boise web design firm, ABPositive, the website will feature the latest team news, roster, live game updates, current statistics and standings. Users will also be able to buy game tickets and merchandise. For the Steelheads youngest fans, the site will feature an interactive kids page starring the Action Heroes.

The Steelheads' updated look also extends to the ice, with players wearing newly designed home, road and third jerseys. The home white sweaters feature a lace-up neckline, and are trimmed in blue, silver and black, with silver rivets. The player names and numbers are in black, outlined in blue. The road sweaters are black with red and white stripes on the sleeves and at the waist, and names and numbers in white, trimmed in red. The alternate third jersey also laces-up at the neck, and is blue, with silver and black trim, and silver rivets. Names and numbers are silver, outlined in black. All three jerseys have the Steelheads primary logo on the chest, and the secondary logo on each shoulder.

Head Coach John Olver said, "Our fans and players are excited about entering the ECHL, and our new look reflects that enthusiasm. I believe new fans and hockey purists alike will enjoy the personalities of the Action Heroes, and the user-friendly website."

The Steelheads are an affiliate of the NHL's Dallas Stars and the AHL's Utah Grizzlies. Training camp opens at the Manchester Ice and Events Centre in McCall, Idaho on October 5th. Idaho will face the expansion Texas Wildcatters for three exhibition games, on October 8th (McCall), and on the 10th and 11th at the Bank of America Centre in Boise. Exhibition game tickets are available at the Manchester Centre by calling (208)634-3570, and at the Bank of America Centre by visiting any Select-A-Seat outlet, by calling 331-TIXS (8497), or by logging on to www.idahotickets.com or www.idahosteelheads.com.

For the regular season action, the Steelheads are offering a "Steel-A-Deal," which gives fans $1.00 off any 12-pack Pepsi product purchased at Jacksons throughout the season by redeeming any game ticket stub at a participating Jacksons store. The Steel-A-Deal also includes a coupon for $5.00 FREE gas at Jacksons with any $15 or more ticket purchased on opening night, October 17th.
