Brampton Steelheads News Release

Mississauga, ON - The Steelheads recognized that the goal scoring drought needed to come to an end, and quickly. Unfortunately, at the expense of a usually consistent defensive play and goaltending.

Dylan Smoskowitz opened the scoring shy of the 10 minute mark, converting a Stuart Percy pass with the man-advantage. Sam Bennett equalized but Andrew Goldberg restored the Steelheads lead moments after. Goldberg beat everyone to a rebound in front of Charlie Furlong and slid it past the Kingston goalie. Michael Moffat equalized with 47 seconds remaining in the period, backhanding a shot past Spencer Martin.

Spencer Watson beat Tyson Teichmann early in the second period but Mississauga would respond. Kristoff Kontos received a Riley Brace pass in the circle and beat Furlong through his legs on the power play. Roland McKeown gave the Frontenacs another lead midway through the game, one they would not relinquish, ricocheting a puck off Teichmann, Alex Cord and into the net.

Kingston's Dylan DiPerna beat an off-balance Teichmann to extend the lead in the third period with his first career OHL goal. Thomas Welsh was dismissed midway through the third period for an interference infraction. The ensuing four on four situation gave Sam Babintsev enough space to reduce the deficit to one goal. Sam Povorozniouk and Moffat both capitalized on the remaining power play time on the Welsh penalty, extending the lead to 7:4, allowing the Frontenacs to escape Mississauga with two points.

The Steelheads visit the Niagara Ice Dogs on Thursday before writing the final home game chapter of the Battle of Peel against Brampton the following evening at 7:30 p.m. Great seats are still available by calling (905) 502 - 7788, visiting the Hershey Centre Box Office, or logging on to Ticketmaster.
