Saginaw Spirit News Release
The Saginaw Spirit traveled to Windsor on Monday night to take on the Spitfires at The WFCU Centre. With the Spirit ahead of the Spits nine points in the standings, Windsor was looking to take advantage of playing on their home ice.
The only goal of the first period occurred 42 seconds after the puck dropped. Saginaw Captain Garret Ross recorded his 37th goal this season with a point blank wrist shot off an assist from Jimmy Lodge. Spirit goalie and Detroit Red Wings draft pick Jake Paterson let his presence be known with a shutout first period, holding the score at 1-0 for the Spirit lead.
Early in the second period, Windsor was still searching for an answer for the dominant Saginaw line featuring Garret Ross, Eric Locke, and Jimmy Lodge. Early pressure from this line paid off for the fourth leading scorer in the OHL, Spirit Assistant Captain Eric Locke. He converted his 38th goal this season with help from none other than Garret Ross and Jimmy Lodge. Spirit goalie Jake Paterson closed the door once again on scoring in the second period, with another shutout period to keep Saginaw in the lead 2-0.
Saginaw opened the scoring once more in the third period when Chicago Blackhawks prospect Garret Ross took advantage of a Spirit power play and buried his second goal of the night assisted by Dalton Young and Jason Shaw. To put the Spits on the board, Josh Ho-Sang banked the puck past Jake Paterson with assists off the stick of Patrick Sanvido and Alexander Khokhlachev. While the Spitfires had a 6 on 5 advantage and an empty net, Garret Ross scored his hat trick third goal of the night which was unassisted. The last goal of the game came off the stick of Windsor rookie Mitch Graham giving him his first OHL career goal. His goal was assisted by Emerson Clark and Patrick Sanvido, but wasn't enough to overturn the Saginaw lead. The Spirit came away with a victory on the road against the Spitfires 4-2.
