Oshawa Generals News Release

Oshawa, Ontario - Oshawa scored 4 unanswered goals in the third period on Monday afternoon, beating the Sudbury Wolves 6-2 before a Family Day crowd of 6,072 at the General Motors Centre. The Generals got 3 goals from their back end, including a pair from Geoffrey Schemitsch, and Boone Jenner recorded 4 assists in the win.

The first was an intensely physical period that saw the Generals own the shot-clock, outshooting the Wolves 21-7. The Generals scored an even-strength goal, before striking short-handed, taking a 2-0 lead into the second period. Matt Petgrave was the first General to cash in, striking 2 seconds after an expired power-play at 3:04. Sliding in from the right-point, Petgrave rifled his 8th past Franky Palazzese's outstretched glove-hand, putting Oshawa up 1-0. Boone Jenner and Geoffrey Schemitsch picked up assists on the opening goal, and the two connected again to put Oshawa up by a pair. Working short-handed, Jenner steamed towards the corner, before finding the trailing Schemitsch at 7:33. Schemitsch pin-balled a wrist-shot that squeaked through Palazzese, sending the home team into the second with a 2-0 edge.

In the middle frame, the Wolves scored 2 goals on 6 shots, tying the game at 2. Oshawa's penalty-kill was sharp early, killing off a Wolves 2-man-advantage in which Sudbury failed to register a shot. Still, Sudbury stayed within striking distance, finally getting on the board at 6:25. Burying his 4th of the season, Danny Desrochers one-timed a cross-ice-feed past Generals' goaltender, Daniel Altshuller. The Gens' net-minder came close to making a sprawling, paddle save, but video review confirmed that the puck crossed the line, cutting the deficit to 1. Sudbury squared it at 2 with less than 2 minutes left in the frame. Firing from the left dot, Nathan Pancel roofed his 24th over Altshuller's left shoulder at 18:25.

Heading into the third, the game was deadlocked, with shots favouring Oshawa, 27-13.The Generals wasted no time restoring their lead in the final frame, needing just 45 seconds to find the go-ahead-marker. Stealing the puck behind Sudbury's net, Jenner set up Michael Dal Colle, who blasted home his 13th from point-blank range.Up 3-2, the Generals hit the accelerator at 15:36. Storming Sudbury's net, Lucas Lessio shoveled his own rebound into the far-side corner of the net for his 11th, giving Oshawa breathing room. Now 4-2 Oshawa, the floodgates opened as Scott Sabourin outworked the defender, cut inside, and tucked a backhand that trickled through Palazzese. Sabourin's 26th came at 16:02, putting the Generals up by a field goal. Schemitsch completed a 2-goal, 3-point night at 16:28, uncorking a shot from the right-point that kissed the twine, finishing off a 6-2 Oshawa victory.

Oshawa outshot Sudbury 44-18. Jenner and Schemitsch received first and second star honours.

The Generals hit the road this Thursday February 21st to take on the Petes in Peterborough. Game goes at 7:05 PM and can be seen live on Rogers TV Durham. Oshawa's next home game is this Friday February 22nd when they take on the division-rival Ottawa 67's at the General Motors Centre. Start time is 7:35 PM.
