Brampton Steelheads News Release
MISSISSAUGA, ON - The Mississauga Steelheads return to action coming off a weekend that saw the team win three-straight against the Kingston Frontenacs, North Bay Battalion and London Knights. The three-win weekend gives the Trout a commanding six-point lead for fifth place in the Eastern Conference over the Hamilton Bulldogs. The weekend also saw Jacob Ingham become the winningest goaltender in Steelheads history surpassing Spencer Martin with his 56th career win over North Bay on Sunday. Alan Lyszczarczyk continued to add to his career-best season with a hat-trick against the North Bay Battalion. Thomas Harley also made history passing Sean Day for third-place on the Steelheads all-time assists by a defenceman list. With the Steelheads resounding 9-4 victory over the London Knights on Monday, the Trout can boast a perfect 3-0 record against the OHL's top three teams (OTT, NIA, LDN) in the month of February.
The team will play two games this weekend on Friday and Sunday against the Oshawa Generals (37-18-3-0) and Kitchener Rangers (27-25-3-1).

Friday night's matchup against the Oshawa Generals gives the Trout a chance to complete a sweep of the top three teams in the Eastern Conference in the month of February. The Generals currently sit in third place in the Eastern Conference 12 points ahead of the Steelheads and have been nearly unbeatable recently going 9-0-1-0 in their last ten. Leading the way for the Gens this season is the trio of Brandon Saigeon, Anthony Salintri and Florida's 2018 second-round pick Serron Noel with each having scored north of 30 goals and 70 points this season. Saigeon who was acquired from Hamilton in a mid-season trade was joined by Nicolas Mattinen, the blueliner whom the Leafs selected in the sixth round of the 2016 draft has put up a career year on Oshawa's back end recording 16 goals and 35 assists in 58 games. A massive reason for the Generals' recent success is goaltender Kyle Keyser, in 39 games this year for the Gens the Coral Springs, FL native has posted a 2.68 GAA (4th in the OHL) and .916% SVS (2nd in the OHL). The Generals hold a 2-1 advantage in the season series, having scored 13 goals combined in their two wins. In the Steelheads lone win, it was Nicholas Canade who scored the game-winning goal one minute and six seconds into the third period.
Sunday, February 24th @ Kitchener Rangers (Kitchener Memorial Auditorium)
Puck Drop @ 2:00PM
Sunday's trip west will be a homecoming for one Steelheads player, Nick McHugh spent three seasons with the Rangers prior to his deadline move to Mississauga. Since the deadline, McHugh has contributed six points in 18 games for the Trout. The Rangers have also found success recently going 6-3-0-1 in their last 10 and currently sit in 6th place in the Western Conference, firmly entrenched in a playoff position. The Rangers main offensive threat this season has been Greg Meireles, 29 goals and 44 assists in 56 games is the best offensive output of his three-year OHL career. The Rangers offence has been potent this season, with the team currently having five players producing at an above a point per game pace. Occupying the crease for Kitchener is Luke Richardson, the '99 born Barrie, ON native has posted 3 shutouts and 21 wins in 40 games played. This will be the first meeting between the two teams this season, and they will get lock horns again not long after as the Rangers will come to Mississauga on Wednesday for a daytime school game.
Opposing Players to Watch:
Oshawa Generals
Allan McShane: A fourth-round selection of the Montreal Canadiens McShane has been a productive player since his rookie season in the OHL. The former Erie Otter scored 23 points in 33 games in his rookie season with the Otters before a trade to the Generals midway through the season. A 65-point sophomore campaign for the Gens earned McShane a spot on Team Canada at the 2017-18 Under-18 World World Junior Championships. In five games at the Tournament McShane compiled six points (1G, 5A) playing alongside fellow Oshawa General Serron Noel. So far this season for the Generals McShane has put up 15 multi-point games, including one three-point outing, and one two-goal performance against the Steelheads.
Kitchener Rangers
Michael Vukojevic: A 2019-draft eligible player hailing from Oakville, ON, Vukojevic is compiling a long list of accomplishments this season. The Rangers defenceman began the season by winning a gold medal with Team Canada at the Hlinka-Gretzky Cup before beginning a strong campaign for Kitchener that has seen him rack up 22 points in 56 games. His performance in the OHL regular season was enough to merit an appearance in the Sherwin-Williams CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game where he recorded an assist in a losing effort for Team Cherry. Finally, Vukojevic can also add being ranked #61 on NHL Central Scouting's Midterm Draft Rankings to his list for the 2018-19 season.
