Steelheads get Kinkel from Mississippi

January 3, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Idaho Steelheads News Release

BOISE, Idaho¾The Idaho Steelheads first transaction of the New Year comes by way of trade, effective today, for forward Bill Kinkel from the Mississippi Sea Wolves for cash considerations.

Steelheads head coach Derek Laxdal said Kinkel's acquisition became a necessity following several injuries on the team. Idaho had only 12 healthy skaters on the bench by the end of last night's contest in Phoenix.

Kinkel adds more than just a body to the roster; he is a physical presence. Standing 6-5 and weighing 240 pounds, the left wing was selected by the New Jersey Devils in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft (round 9, 281st pick overall).

At 23-years-old, the Buffalo, NY native has spent time in the American Hockey League playing a total 68 games during the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons with the Houston Aeros where he tallied 6 goals, 3 assists and 231 penalty minutes. He's played in the ECHL with Mississippi (12 games, 2007-08), the Utah Grizzlies (22 games, 2006-07), the Florida Everblades (25 games, 2006-07), and Pensacola Ice Pilots (30 games, 2004-05), and accumulated a total 9 goals, 4 assists and 384 penalty minutes.

Kinkel will join the Steelheads in Bakersfield as the team wraps up its seven-game road trip with the first of two games against the Condors, beginning on Friday, January 4th. The puck drops at 8:05 p.m. MST. All the action can be heard live on 1350 AM KTIK "The Ticket" or via the B2 Networks with the ECHL's Broadcaster of the Year, Joe O'Donnell calling the play-by-play.

The Steelheads return home on Wednesday, January 9th and tickets can be purchased via www.idahosteelheads.com (using the print-at-home feature), by calling 331-TIXS or from the Qwest Arena box office.
