Elmira Jackals News Release
The Elmira Jackals, proud member of the ECHL, announced today that right wing Chaz Johnson has been loaned to the Binghamton Senators of the American Hockey League and that the club has received defensemen Andrei Plehkanov (plah-HAHN-ahv) and Kyle Wharton (WOHR-tuhn) from the Syracuse Crunch (AHL). The Jackals also released goaltender Adam Horvath. Horvath served as Elmira's emergency back-up during last night's 7-3 win at Reading.
Johnson's loan to the Senators marks the 17th transaction involving nine Elmira-contracted players that have been loaned to American Hockey League teams this season.
Starting the year in Binghamton's training camp before joining the Jackals in October, Johnson extended his point scoring streak to six games (5+3=8) with a goal Wednesday night in Reading and now has goals in four of his last six contests. He heads to Binghamton with season totals of nine goals and six assists for 15 points with a team-high 109 penalty minutes.
Elmira's defensive ranks were bolstered as the Columbus Blue Jackets reassigned Wharton from Syracuse to Elmira while the Crunch loaned Plekhanov to the Jackals.
Wharton, 21, appeared in 13 games with the Crunch this season with a pair of goals and three points along with 29 PIM. The 6'3, 195-pound Ottawa, Ontario, native was a second round (59th overall) pick by Columbus in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
Plekhanov, 21, makes his second stop in Elmira this season. Appearing in just one game with Jackals, Plekhanov notched an assist in the team's 2-0 win over Dayton November 9th at First Arena. In 22 games with Syracuse in this year, the 21-year old from Nizhnekamsk, Russia, posted two goals and nine assists for 11 points and 4 PIM. Plekhanov was also part of Columbus' 2004 draft, chosen in the third round (96th overall).
