Anderson, Burgess Named to All-Star Training, Equipment Staff

STOCKTON, Calif. - Stockton Thunder head athletic trainer Kevin Anderson and Equipment Manager Mark Burgess have been named to the National Conference training and equipment staff of the 2008 Chase Chevrolet ECHL All-Star Game presented by Jackson Rancheria and Bud Light at Stockton Arena, Thunder president Dan Chapman announced today in conjunction with the ECHL.

"Having Kevin and Mark selected to the National Conference All-Star team is a great and well deserved honor," said Chapman. "Both of these guys have been with us since our first season and are highly respected throughout the league. Our organization is very happy for them and it will be even more of an honor being able to serve in our home arena."

Anderson, named to the National Conference's All-Star training staff for the second consecutive year, is in his third season as the head athletic trainer for both the Thunder and the Stockton Lightning arenafootball2 team. A certified member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, he worked six years as an assistant athletic trainer and instructor at University of the Pacific while also serving as head athletic trainer for the Magic Johnson Summer Basketball Camps and Charity Games.

Anderson has assisted the Stockton Ports baseball team and worked two years as an athletic training intern for the Los Angeles Rams of the National Football League. He was awarded his master's degree in sports medicine from University of the Pacific and his bachelor's degree in pre-physical therapy from the University of Nevada, Reno.

It is the second career All-Star selection for Burgess, who previously served the American Conference team as a trainer with the Greenville Grrrowl at the 2005 ECHL All-Star Game. Burgess is in his third season as the head equipment manager for both the Thunder and the Stockton Lightning arenafootball2 team while also handling team travel and housing for both.

Burgess is in his 15th season in the ECHL having worked for Baton Rouge, Charlotte, Greenville and Huntington and also worked for the 1997 Roller Hockey International champion Anaheim Bullfrogs. The native of Santa Cruz, Calif. played college hockey at Erie Community College before transferring to Santa Rosa Junior College where he received his degree in athletic training.

In total, the Thunder has six representatives at this year's ECHL All-Star Game at Stockton Arena. Defenseman Brad Farynuk, rookie center Ryan O'Marra and rookie left wing Jacob Micflikier were named to the National Conference team and radio play-by-play announcer Mike Benton was named to the radio broadcast announcing crew, with the game airing nationally on XM Satellite Radio and produced through NHL Radio.

2008 CHASE CHEVROLET ECHL ALL-STAR GAME

Hosted by the Stockton Thunder and the City of Stockton at Stockton Arena, the 2008 Chase Chevrolet ECHL All-Star Game presented by Jackson Rancheria and Bud Light will be played on Jan. 23 with the 11th edition of the Chase Chevrolet ECHL All-Star Game Skills Competition being held on Jan. 22. The economic impact of the All-Star Game is projected to give the city of Stockton an estimated more than $1 million in revenue and will take place in the 9,737-seat Stockton Arena, adjacent to the new seven-story Sheraton Stockton Hotel at Regent Pointe. Stockton is the 13th largest city in California and the 69th largest city in the United States of America.

The ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Edmonton Oilers and American Hockey League's Springfield Falcons, the Thunder has led the ECHL in attendance for two consecutive seasons and drew 244,085 fans to Stockton Arena in 2006-07.
