Cameron Catches Second Straight All-Star Selection

January 3, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Texas Wildcatters News Release

Beaumont, TX- Texas Wildcatters have announced that Head Coach and V.P. of Hockey Operations Malcolm Cameron has been named as coach for the American Conference All-Star Team for the 2008 Chase Chevrolet ECHL All-Star Game presented by Jackson Rancheria and Bud Light, which will take place on January 23, 2008 in Stockton, CA.

This is the second consecutive season that Cameron will be at the helm of the American Conference team, getting the nod as the result of his team having the best record in the conference. Texas is 24-2-5 and leads the ECHL with a winning percentage of .855 and is tied with Cincinnati for the league lead with 24 wins.

"This is a team honor, and not one I take lightly," said Cameron, "To be selected once is a great compliment, not to mention twice. But none of this would happen if it were not for the players."

Cameron's squad will feature two Wildcatters: Team Captain John McNabb, who leads the Catters and is tied for second in the ECHL with 42 points (16 goals, 26 assists), and rookie goaltending prodigy Anton Khudobin, who is undefeated in regulation at 12-0-0-3 and third among ECHL keepers with a goals-against average of 2.09 and save percentage of .931.

"There are several more players on this team that are having just great seasons and I feel are certainly deserving. As it is, we're in a large, very good conference. I'm proud of all my players," said Cameron.

One such casualty of conference parity may be rookie Brandon Benedict. His 33 points (8 goals, 25 assists) are a tie for eighth in the ECHL, though all but three of the 14 players at or above his level come from the American Conference.

Cameron's All-Star nomination is his second in the ECHL and third in five seasons of professional coaching. He was nominated to the UHL All-Star game as coach of Columbus in 2002-03 but his first-place team folded one week before the game.

The Chase Chevrolet ECHL All-Star Game presented by Jackson Rancheria and Bud Light will be televised live at 10 p.m. ET on NHL Network for sixth-consecutive year. The telecast is available online free-of-charge through the ECHL web site on B2 Networks, the "Official Broadband Broadcast Provider of the ECHL".

The Broadcast will be carried live on XM Radio for the third consecutive year on NHL Hockey Play-by-Play (XM Channel 206) at 10 p.m. ET on Jan. 23 in the United States.
