Brampton Steelheads News Release
MISSISSAUGA, ON - The Mississauga Steelheads are excited to announce that forward Kai Schwindt has signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Florida Panthers. The Kitchener, ON native is the second of the Schwindt brothers to both play for the Steelheads and sign a contract with the Panthers, as his brother Cole was drafted by and played for the team.
"Kai is a competitive, high-effort individual who is able to use his size and skill effectively," said Bill Zito, General Manager of the Florida Panthers. "We're excited to welcome him and watch his continued development within our Panthers organization."
After signing as a free agent to the Steelheads for the 2021-22 season, Schwindt quickly became a fixture in the offensive lineup and finished the regular season with 17 points in total (12G, 5A). His 12 goals in the regular season included two game-winners and a powerplay goal. He remained positive with a plus/minus of +11.
"I am super honoured and excited to sign my first NHL contract with the Florida Panthers." said the newly-signed Kai Schwindt. "Getting the chance to develop my game with the amazing staff in Florida is something I am not going to take for granted and I am ready to get to work."
While Schwindt was not selected in this year's NHL Draft, the Panthers invited him to their development camp over the summer. He was most recently invited to participate in their prospect tournament before earning himself an invitation to their NHL Training Camp. In the team's first game of the pre-season, the left-winger scored a goal to help the Panthers secure a victory over the Nashville Predators.
Head Coach and General Manager James Richmond also commented on the signing. "Kai was a Free Agent that came to Mississauga and made the most of his opportunity through hard work and determination. We couldn't be more proud of Kai and happy for him on the announcement of signing his first NHL contract."
Congratulations to Kai and the Schwindt family!
