Steelheads fall in shootout

BOISE, ID- The Idaho Steelheads (13-12-7) fell by a 2-1 score in a shootout to the Bakersfield Condors (15-14-1) before a crowd of 4,851 at Qwest Arena. Cody Purves netted Idaho's lone goal in regulation, as the Steelheads fell to 1-5-2 in their last eight games.

Cody Purves scored his second of the season at 9:22 of the second period after picking up his own rebound on a diving effort to beat Bakersfield goalie Josh Tordjman. ECHL All-Stars Kael Mouillierat and Mark Derlago picked up assists on the goal.

Andrew Ianiero answered less than three minutes later for Bakersfield at 12:19 on a wrist shot from the right circle to tie the game at 1-1.

In the shootout, Bakersfield scored twice compared to the Steelheads' one tally to earn the second point.

Mike Zacharias is 7-5-4 in net for Idaho after stopping 21 of 22 shots. Josh Tordjman is 11-9-1 after stopping 31 of 32 shots in the Condors net.

Idaho and Bakersfield are back at it on New Year's Day. The puck drops at Qwest Arena at 7:10 PM.
