BOISE, Idaho – David Cornacchia's goal at 42-seconds of sudden-death overtime propelled the Idaho Steelheads to a 1-0 win over the division-leading Bakersfield Condors at Centennial Garden Saturday night. Colin Zulianello stopped all 23 Condor shots for the win and his first shutout of the season.

Both teams slugged it out through three defensive-oriented periods. Idaho's penalty killers were pushed to the limit, but held firm as they killed off four consecutive Bakersfield power plays in the third period. For the game, Idaho stopped all eight Condor extra-man chances, while Idaho was 0-7 with the man advantage.

After regulation ended at 0-0, Bobby Russell dug the puck out of the corner early in the extra period and sent it towards the Bakersfield net. Cornacchia redirected the puck over Randy Petruck's left shoulder for the game-winner. Frank Lukes also recorded an assist on Cornacchia's fourth goal of the season.

Each team picked up a point for the scoreless regulation contest, and Idaho claimed the second point to draw to within three points of the first-place Condors. Zulianello improves his record to 2-4-0, while Petruck saw his season mark fall to 6-1-1.

Idaho and Bakersfield square off again Monday night at Centennial Garden.

Of note: Steelheads were playing shorthanded tonight due to Scott Burt's game suspension for being assessed a match penalty Friday night in Fresno, the trade of forward Greg Keith to the Fresno Falcons (terms of the trade not disclosed), and Darren McLachlan who sat out his second straight game due to stomach virus.
