Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Playing against his former coach, Matt Underhill stopped all 30 shots he faced and Mississippi scored three unanswered second period goals to cruise past Alaska 3-0 before 4,485 Saturday at Sullivan Arena.

After a scoreless first period, the Sea Wolves (11-10-2) killed off an Alaska power play early in the second and scored immediately after coming back to full strength, as Jay Legault rocketed a wrist shot just underneath the crossbar at 3:17. Chris Cava beat a screened Aces goalie Lance Mayes on a wrist shot from the point with six and a half minutes left in the middle frame to give Mississippi a 2-0 lead, and three minutes later Anthony Battaglia converted a power play for a three-goal margin heading into the final period.

Alaska (12-11-2) had rallied from two goals down with less than five minutes remaining to earn a point in Friday's 5-4 overtime loss, but the Aces had no answers for Underhill despite out-shooting the Sea Wolves 13-6 over the final 20 minutes and 30-19 for the game. The loss marked the fourth time this season that Alaska has been shut out in regulation, and the first at home, while Mississippi claimed its fourth straight victory, all on the road. The Aces failed to convert any of their five power play chances and slipped to fifth in the West Division with the loss.

The first 2,000 children ages 12 and under arriving at tomorrow's series finale at 5:05 p.m. will receive Xpress Lube T-shirts, and of course, the kids will then be able to take part in the KeyBank post-game "Skate with the Aces." GCI also will be giving away 40,000 Alaska Airlines miles during tomorrow's game.
