Bakersfield Condors News Release

Bakersfield, Calif. - David Cornacchia's goal just 42 seconds into overtime broke a scoreless tie and gave the Idaho Steelheads a 1-0 win over the Bakersfield Condors in front of 4,722 fans at Centennial Garden on Saturday night.

The two teams were locked up in a goaltender's duel through the first 40 minutes of the game. Neither team put one past the goalies through two full periods, despite 10 combined power play chances through that point. Idaho led in shots 16-13 up until that point.

In the third period, neither team fared much better, though the Condors picked up the effort. They outshot the Steelheads 10-3 in the frame, but still couldn't manage the go-ahead tally. Bakersfield failed to score on four third period power plays and eight in the game. Only one shot on goal was managed in overtime, as David Cornacchia redirected a centering feed past G Randy Petruk for the game winner just 42 ticks into the extra session.

The Condors remain at home for their next six matches, including Monday night's rematch with Idaho, slated for a 7:00 p.m. start at Centennial Garden. That game features the annual Project Warm Families Coat Drive, sponsored by KGET-TV 17 and News Radio 970 KGET. Anyone that brings a new or gently used coat to the game will be able to get a ticket for just $1.
