Brampton Steelheads News Release

Tonight was BMO Fan Appreciation Night, and the Steelheads welcomed members of the Port Credit Minor Hockey Association to the Hershey Centre. In front of a screaming crowd, the Trout looked to bounce back after last night's road loss in Erie.

Mississauga came out hot in this one, quickly gaining possession of the offensive zone. Justin Bean had the first offensive chance for the Steelheads, as he was fed in the slot and wristed a shot off the post. Just after the four minute mark, the Steelheads headed to the power play. Mississauga couldn't convert and took a penalty of their own shortly after. However, just eight seconds into the penalty kill, the Bulls took another minor penalty resulting in 4-on-4 hockey for almost a full two minutes. 12:35 into the frame, the Trout entered the Bulls' zone via some rink-wide passing and Jimmy Lodge became the 2nd Steelhead to find the post in the period. Lodge regained the puck shortly after and appeared to score, but the goal was reviewed and disallowed. A minute and change later, the Bulls found the scoreboard with Chad Heffernan's 4th goal of the season; Brandon Saigeon and Andrew Ming tallied assists. As time expired, Ming took a high-sticking penalty, giving Mississauga a fresh power play to begin the second period. Mississauga took a 14-9 lead in shots.

The Steelheads didn't score on their period-opening power play, despite mounting several chances. Before the middle frame was four minutes old, the Trout would find their own way to the penalty box. Nearing the midway point in the game, Lucas Venuto gained the zone, fed Jason Smith who then centered for Adam Donnelly, but Donnelly couldn't get his stick on the puck. Just a minute later, with Mississauga sustaining pressure, Jimmy Lodge picked up the puck at the hash-marks and fired a shot that was stopped, but Lodge followed up on the play and buried the rebound at the side of the net for his 13th of the season. The Trout continued to roll in what may have been their strongest period of the season. Nathan Bastian found Mikey McLeod in the slot who wired home his 4th of the season on the one-timer. Damian Bourne recorded the other assist. With the pair of goals, the Steelheads bring with them a one-goal lead into the third.

The Trout got another chance on the man advantage a minute into the third period. The power play opportunity came and went, and the Bulls fought their way back into the game. Matt Luff deflected in a pass from Brett Gustavsen to tie the score 2-2. Not to be outdone, Josh Burnside tipped in a Sam Babintsev offering for his 5th of the season, reinstating Mississauga's lead. Venuto tallied the secondary assist on the marker. In the final minute, with Belleville pressing and their net empty, Spencer Martin made a save with the shaft of his stick to preserve the lead and win. The Steelheads outshot the Bulls 42-38 in the one-goal victory.

The Steelheads return home Sunday, November 30 to host the London Knights at 2:00 pm. Be sure to come early as the first 1,000 fans will receive FREE mini-sticks courtesy of Smart Stop Storage. After the game be sure to stick around for our Booster Juice Autograph Series to meet and greet with Steelheads players and get all your swag signed.
