Steelheads Announce 2007-08 Preseason Games

BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads Hockey Club announced today that it will play two preseason games at McCall's Manchester Ice and Events Centre on Friday, October 13th and Saturday, October 14th against the Central Hockey League's (CHL) Wichita Thunder. Steelheads head coach Derek Laxdal spent two-and-a-half seasons as Wichita's head coach prior to joining the Steelheads in August of 2005.

Players officially report to training camp on October 4th in Boise. Following physicals, fitness testing, and a few days of practices at Qwest Arena, the camp will move to McCall for the fourth time in five seasons.

Once again, McCall's Whitetail Club and Resort will host the Steelheads during their stay. Coach Laxdal said the support of the McCall community has been phenomenal and makes it possible to execute several team-building activities. While there, the team will have a chance to bond on the golf course at Whitetail and Jug Mountain Ranch, and on the mountain biking trails at Tamarack Resort.

"We want to thank the Manchester Centre and Whitetail, along with all of the local businesses and restaurants for their hospitality," said Laxdal. "We'll have another great camp this year, with a lot of new talent, and McCall offers us a unique opportunity to start building another championship-bound team."

Tickets for the two preseason games can be purchased starting Wednesday, September 12th by calling 208.634.3570 or by visiting the 650-seat Manchester Centre. Prices are $13 for adults, $10 for children 12 and under, and children under three years of age get in free. Both games will start at 7:10 p.m.

A full training camp schedule will be released at a later date.

The Steelheads will unveil the 2007 Kelly Cup Championship banner at the 2007-08 season home opener on Friday, October 19th against the Victoria SalmonKings.
