Sparre Signs with Inferno

(COLUMBIA, S.C.) The Columbia Inferno have signed left wing Daniel Sparre, head coach and director of hockey operations Troy Mann announced today. Sparre, a native of Brampton, Ontario, tallied 57 points (23 goals, 34 assists) and 68 penalty minutes in 68 games last season with the Texas Wildcatters. The 5-foot-10, 180-pound winger has 67 total points (29 goals, 38 assists) in 84 career ECHL games over two seasons with the Wildcatters and the Charlotte Checkers, as well as 13 total points (six goals, seven assists) in 12 career Kelly Cup Playoff games. "Daniel is another great addition to our forward mix. He has a proven in his young career to be a dynamic offensive talent in the ECHL," Mann said. "Daniel's impressive skating ability and his strength in controlling the puck down low in the offensive zone is what really sets him apart from other players in our league." The 22-year-old Sparre played 203 total games in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with the Victoriaville Tigers and Halifax Mooseheads from the 2002-03 season through 2004-05. During that span, he tallied 180 points (95 goals, 85 assists) and 186 penalty minutes in 203 career games. Sparre also played 37 games with the Hartford Wolfpack of the AHL during the 2005-06 season, scoring 13 points (six goals, seven assists) and logging 14 penalty minutes. Sparre will also be participating in the Toronto Maple Leafs rookie tournament in Kitchener, Ontario, from Sept. 6-10. The Florida Panthers, Ottawa Senators and Pittsburgh Penguins will be joining the Leafs in the tournament.
