Omaha Lancers News Release

Geneva, IL - Four unanswered goals helped Chicago keep their undefeated start rolling as they topped the Lancers 4-2 Saturday night.

Omaha has now scored first in eight of ten games this season. The Lancers had their five game win-streak snapped. Brannon McManus continued his league-high point streak with a goal in the first, finding the scoresheet for the seventh straight game.

Fast starts have been the story for the Lancers during the last month. That continued Saturday night as Emilio Pettersen got the Lancers on the board only 3:20 into regulation. Chicago's Ales Stezka had not allowed a goal in the first nine periods he had played before facing the Lancers. Pettersen's goal gave the Lancers a 1-0 lead for the eighth time in ten games this season. One was not all that the Lancers would get in the first period. With time winding down Brannon McManus took advantage of a break-away down the right wing. McManus snapped a quick shot that beat Stezka high to the glove side, and Omaha took a 2-0 lead into the locker room.

Chicago's best period this season has been the second, and that trend continued. Unassisted goals from Jake Badini and Johnny Walker just two minutes apart tied the game up before the halfway mark of the second. Time winding down in the second and Mitch Lewandowski gave the Steel their first lead of the game tapping the puck past Peter Thome in the Lancer net.

In the third neither team was able to solve their opponents' goaltender. Omaha got an opportunity on the power play with time winding but was unable to capitalize to draw even. Chicago picked up an empty net tally with seven seconds left in regulation to wrap up the scoring.

Peter Thome recorded 29 saves in the loss for the Lancers, while Ales Stezka notched 27 saves winning his fourth straight game.

Omaha heads to Bloomington, Illinois next weekend for a weekend series with the Thunder Friday and Saturday nights.
