Madison Capitols News Release
MADSON, WI - The Madison Capitols fall, 6-1, to the Lincoln Stars at Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Friday night.
Madison (3-5-0-0) is tied for sixth place in the Eastern Conference with six points. Lincoln (5-5-0-0) is tied for fourth place in the Western Conference with 10 points.
Putting Lincoln ahead, defenseman Alex Green passed the puck from the left point to forward Brandon Schultz at the right point. Schultz then tossed the puck to the high slot where forward Henry Bowbly collected the pass and wristed a shot past netminder Daniel Lebedeff for his third goal of the season at 16:20 of the opening frame.
From the top of the right face-off circle, Stars forward Ethen Frank passed the puck to forward Dominick Mersch in the left face-off circle. Mersch wristed the puck over the glove of Lebedeff at 5:35 of the first period to give Lincoln the 1-0 lead.
On the end redline, Capitols forward Marshall Moise received a pass from the stick of forward Marcel Godbout on a power play and chipped the puck over the shoulder of goaltender Cayden Primeau for his first goal of the season at 12:02 of the first stanza.
To add to the Stars lead, forward Justin Richards picked up his third tally of the season at 8:23 of the second period. Frank fed a pass from left face-off dot to Richards in the slot. Richards took a shot that deflected off the netminder's pads. The forward caught his own rebound and snapped it past Lebedeff to give Lincoln a 3-1 advantage.
Forward Mike Gillespie carried the puck into the Capitols zone and sent a pass to Frank just inside the left point. Frank slid the puck to Bowlby who fired a one-timer past Lebedeff for a power play goal at 10:11 of the second period.
Capitols goaltender Dryden McKay relieved Lebedeff between the pipes following Bowlby's goal midway through the second period.
The Stars took a 5-1 lead at 9:15 of the third period. Schultz carried the puck into the Capitols zone along the right wing and then cut to the center of the zone. Schultz the sent a feed over to forward Casey Dornbach in the right face-off circle. Dornbach wristed a shot up and over the pads of a fallen McKay for his first goal of the season.
At 16:46 of the final stanza, Lincoln finished off the Capitols with their final goal of the night. Gillespie sent a pass to the center point. Frank picked up the pass and forwarded it on to forward Gustaf Westlund in the right face-off circle. Westlund snapped the puck past McKay glove for his first goal of the season.
Lebedeff (2-5-0-0) stopped 19-of-23 shots in 30:11 minutes. McKay (1-0-0-0) stopped 6-of-8 shots in 29:49 minutes.
Primeau (3-3-0-0) stopped 27 of the 28 shots made by Madison.
Madison went 1-for-7 on the power play. Lincoln went 1-for-6 on the power play.
Notables - The Capitols (3-5-0-0) recorded their largest margin of defeat this season... Forward Marshall Moise tallied his first goal of the season...Tonight is the first time this season that both goaltenders, Dryden McKay and Daniel Lebedeff, made an appearance in net for the Capitols.
