Madison Capitols News Release

MADISON, WI - The Madison Capitols defeated the Waterloo Blackhawks, 3-2, in front of 1,822 fans at Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Friday night.

Madison (3-4-0-0) is ranked sixth in the Eastern Conference with six points.

Waterloo (6-2-0-0) is ranked second in the Western Conference with 12 points.

"I thought the effort was obviously so much better tonight," said Capitols' Head Coach and General Manager Garrett Suter. "We had four lines rolling for a majority of the game, it was easy to keep up and keep pace for the first two periods. Things got tight and the older guys stepped up and played a big part in tonight's win. Discipline was the one thing that made the difference tonight, discipline in our systems and in the way that we attack and our effort."

To seal the win for Madison, forward Mick Messner netted a goal at 8:07 of the second period. Forward Eugene Fadyeyev tossed the puck toward the net where forward Vincent de Mey picked it up and shot into the pad of netminder Robbie Beydoun. Messner recovered the rebound and tipped the puck past the goal line for the game-winner.

Forward Alec Broetzman scored the Capitols' first goal of the night at the four-minute mark of the first period. Forward Kamil Sadlocha carried the puck into the left face-off circle. Sadlocha passed it over to Broetzman who quickly lifted it over the right pad of Beydoun for his first goal of the season.

Black Hawks' forward Garrett Wait received a pass from forward Garrett Klee, and snuck the puck past goaltender Daniel Lebedeff at 6:55 of the first period to tie the game at 1-1. Forward Kevin Charyszyn was also credited with an assist on the play.

Capitols forward Noah Weber put Madison back in the lead at 9:55 of the first period. Forward Marcel Godbout fed a behind-the-back pass from the top of the crease to the right face-off circle where Weber fired the puck past a distracted Beydoun for his first tally of the season.

Waterloo added another tally at 13:33 of the second period to bring the game to within one goal. Defenseman Chase Pilawski took a wide shot that bounced off the boards ending up on the stick of forward Shane Bowers who threw the puck in from the blueline.

Lebedeff (2-4-0-0) earned his second win of the season stopping 16-of-18 shots.

Beydoun (4-1-0-2) suffered his first loss of the season making 23 saves on 26 shots.

Madison and Waterloo both went 0-for-4 on the power play.
