Sioux Falls SD,--The Sioux Falls Stampede battled until the final horn and nearly tied the game with just 15 seconds left, but came up on the wrong end of a 4-2 final to the Green Bay Gamblers in front of 6,553 fans at the PREMIER Center Saturday night. Jason O'Neill and Matthew Quercia tallied the Herd's only goals while Jeremy Swayman stopped 26 of 29 shots in goal for the Stampede who finished their four-game home stand with just a 1-3-0 mark and are now 3-5-1 on the season. The Stampede had plenty of opportunities in the game, but struggled on the power play, going 0-for-6 on the night. With the win the Gamblers earned a split in the weekend series after the Stampede won 7-2 on Friday night.

The Stampede knew the Gamblers (6-4-0) would come out looking for revenge and Green Bay did come out with strong play through the first four minutes, but the Stampede were able to hold off the rush and keep the game scoreless. The Herd grabbed the first goal of the game at 4:51 of the period when Austin Albrecht took the puck behind the Gamblers net and sent a perfect pass in between the circles to Jason O'Neill who one-timed the pass into the back of the net to grab the first goal of the game. It stayed that way until 14:50 of the period when Green Bay would even the game. Rourke Russel wristed a shot that was stopped by Jeremey Swayman, but the rebound bounced inside the right circle to Casey Mittelstadt who pounced on the puck and fired it into the net to tie the game 1-1. Green Bay outshot Sioux Falls 10-6 in the period.

The second period started much like it did the night before with Green Bay taking the lead at 5:24 when Jared Spooner took the puck inside the right circle and wristed a shot past the glove of Swayman to make it a 2-1 game. Green Bay added to their lead just 24 seconds later when Brody Stevens got a stick on a shot from Connor Mackey and tipped it just over the head of Swayman and the puck bounced behind him and into the net to give the Gamblers a 3-1 lead. The Stampede would get right back into the game four minutes later when Matthew Quercia tallied his first goal of the season. Quercia drove towards the net and tucked it under the pads of Green Bay goaltender Maksim Zhukov to bring the Herd back within a goal at 3-2. Green Bay outshot the Herd 10-7 in the period.

Sioux Falls battled hard in the third period, but could not get the bounce they were looking for. With 3:30 left in the game, the Herd went on a four minute power play. Swayman was pulled with 90 seconds remaining, giving the Herd a 6-on-4 advantage. The final 30 seconds the Herd threw everything they had at the Gamblers and had shots trickle just wide and a shot hit the goal post as Zhukov stood tall and secured the victory for the Gamblers who got an empty net goal from Mittelstadt to seal the victory at 4-2. The Stampede outshot Green Bay, 10-9 in the final period, but the Gamblers outshot Sioux Falls 30-24 on the night.

The Stampede hit the road next weekend as they travel to Muskegon to face the Lumberjacks for games on Friday and Saturday. Game times both nights are 6:15 PM locally and fans can catch all the action on KELO News Talk 1320-AM, 107.9-FM and online at KELO.com. The Herd return home on November 5th for Pink in the Rink night, presented by Sioux Falls Specialty Hospital.
