-SPIKES AND MUCKDOGS CLASH TONIGHT: The State College Spikes meet the Batavia Muckdogs tonight for the second game of a three-game series at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park as part of a string of six straight meetings that started on Wednesday. The Spikes will also look to end a seven-game slide, three of which are losses in the ninth inning. Batavia leads the all-time series, 32-22, and is 16-11 against the Spikes in State College.
-LAST GAME: Chris Lashmet produced a 3-for-3 night at the plate with a pair of runs batted in, but a seven-run sixth inning spelled doom for the Spikes in a 9-3 defeat at the hands of the Muckdogs on Saturday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Lashmet's trio of hits included the first double of his professional career, as well as a run-scoring single in the third inning that plated Justin Bencsko and gave the Spikes a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Taylor Lewis also extended his on-base streak to 13 games.
-BENEDICT HEADS TO HILL FOR SPIKES: Right-hander Matt Benedict returns to the mound tonight for his fifth start of the year in a State College uniform. Benedict went a career-long 5 2/3 innings in his last outing at Auburn, but did not factor in the decision after being tagged with five runs, two of which were earned. Benedict has struck out ten and walked just three in 18 innings on the mound this year.
-ALMARANTE GETS MUCKODGS MOUND ASSIGNMENT: Batavia will send right-hander Jose Almarante to the hill tonight. Almarante, known prior to 2011 as Eduard Estalis, pitched for three years in the Dominican Summer League before joining Batavia. The Haitian has made three starts of six innings or more on the season and four total starts this year.
-PONCE JOINS SPIKES TONIGHT: Infielder Ashley Ponce joined the club today from the Gulf Coast League. The Panama native hit .298 with three RBI in nine games for the GCL Pirates.
