Jamestown Jammers News Release
AUBURN, N.Y. - It looked like the Jamestown Jammers were on their way to their fourth straight victory against the Auburn Doubledays.
Then, the sixth inning happened and the Doubledays stormed back from eight runs down with 10 of their own to stun the Jammers, 11-9, at Falcon Park Sunday night.
In the pivotal inning, Auburn sent 14 batters to the plate that accounted for four singles, three doubles, two walks and a homer to plate 10 runs and burn through three different Jamestown relievers.
The Jammers jumped out to an early advantage with two-out lightning in the second inning. Josh Adams singled and moved to second on a Rand Smith walk. He then scored on a Rony Peralta single to make it 1-0.
Jamestown starting pitcher Tom Peale would continue to silence the Auburn bats as he kept them without a hit through four innings. Then, the offense gave him plenty of breathing room with a ï¬Âve-run ï¬Âfth inning.
After the ï¬Ârst out was recorded, the next seven batters reached for the Jammers. Ryan Goetz singled and Austin Barnes reached on a ï¬Âelding error. Brent Keys poked a single to right to extend his hitting streak to 11 games and score Goetz. Terrence Dayleg and Jobduan Morales had back-to-back RBI doubles, and Adams picked up a RBI single of his own. A passed ball allowed Morales to score to make it 6-0 Jamestown.
Hendry Jimenez would double in a run in the bottom of the ï¬Âfth inning, but the Jammers would answer with three more runs in the top of the sixth.
Goetz triggered the offense again with a walk, and Barnes moved him to third with a double. Both runners came into score when shortstop Roberto Perez threw the ball away trying to get Goetz scoring from third on a ï¬Âelder's choice. Adams picked up a sacriï¬Âce ï¬ây to make it 9-1 Jamestown, but that lead would not last for long.
After Peale was lifted for a reliever to begin the sixth inning, the Doubledays struck for all 10 runs and go up by two runs.
Jamestown's best chance to tie the game came in the eighth inning when Keys and Dayleg had back-to-back singles to start the inning; however, a strikeout and double play ended the threat.
Adams continued the hot start to his professional career with three hits and two RBI.
Dayleg and Morales both had a single and a double, while Keys and Goetz each had a pair of hits.
Angelberth Montilla ripped three hits with two runs to be the only Auburn player with multiple hits. Matt Skole belted a solo homer, and Jimenez, Justin Miller and Roberto Perez each had a double.
The two teams will wrap up the three-game series Monday night at Falcon Park with ï¬Ârst pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
