-SPIKES CONTINUE LAST HOMESTAND OF YEAR TONIGHT: The State College Spikes return home to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park tonight to roll on with the final four-game homestand of the season with the start of a two-game series against the Mahoning Valley Scrappers. The two teams have split the first eight meetings of the year, with State College winning all three games against the Scrappers from June 20-22. Mahoning Valley leads the all-time series, 37-31.

-LAST GAME: Dilson Herrera put together another superb offensive performance with a pair of hits, including a double, but the Williamsport Crosscutters used a pair of big innings to get past the State College Spikes, 7-2, in a late afternoon Labor Day matchup on Monday at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Herrera is now 6-for-9 at the plate since homering on Saturday night at Jamestown to give State College the victory that night. Joely Rodriguez took the loss on the mound.

-GLASNOW TO MAKE SPIKES DEBUT TONIGHT: Right-hander Tyler Glasnow makes his first start in a State College uniform tonight. Glasnow, the fifth-round draft choice of the Pirates in 2011, went 0-3 with a 2.10 ERA this year in 11 appearances (10 starts) for the GCL Pirates. The Newhall, CA native also started the second and final game of the GCL Championship Series, a game in which the GCL Pirates defeated the GCL Red Sox, 5-2, to win their first league title in 44 years.

-MERRITT MAKES HIS FINAL SCRAPPERS START OF 2012 TONIGHT: Left-hander Ryan Merritt is slated to start for the Scrappers tonight. Merritt is making his 14th and last start of the year for Mahoning Valley, and has faced the Spikes once already this year. On July 17, the southpaw held the Spikes to one run on four hits over seven innings of work, striking out five in a no-decision. Merritt is 2-1 with a 3.46 ERA on the road (as opposed to a 4.67 mark at home) this year.

-MARTE MAKING REHAB APPEARANCE WITH SPIKES: Injured Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Starling Marte will lead off and DH for the Spikes tonight as part of a rehab assignment in the Pirates' minor league system. The Bucs' rookie was placed on the 15-day Disabled List August 19 with a right oblique injury. The 22-year old is likely to only appear in one game for the Spikes before moving on to Triple-A Indianapolis on Wednesday.

-SPIKE MARKS: Tyler Gaffney's 20 times hit by pitch still lead the loop...Samuel Gonzalez is tied for the NYPL lead with 5 sacrifice flies...State College pitchers have allowed just 18 home runs, least in the NYPL...Pitchers Clario Perez (August 30, 20), Kevin Kleis (August 31, 21) and Lance Breedlove (September 1, 22) all celebrated birthdays during this past road trip
