Yankees Take Game Two

STATEN ISLAND, NY-The Staten Island Yankees (29-45) scored two runs in the eighth inning to win 4-2 over the Connecticut Tigers (35-39) at Richmond County Bank Ballpark at St. George on Tuesday night.

RHP Tim Kelley (1-5) pitched six and two-thirds innings in his longest outing of the season to suffer the loss.

The Tigers scored two runs in the fifth inning. C Bennett Pickar (0-2) was hit by a pitch. He moved to second base when SS Jared Reaves (1-3) walked. 3B Tyler Hanover (2-5) singled to load the bases. A wild pitch by RHP Gabriel Encincas allowed both Pickar and Reaves to score for a 2-0 lead.

The Yankees scored their first run of the game in the sixth inning. RF Exicardo Cayones (1-3) singled and stole second base. He moved to third base on a ground out and scored on a single by SS Claudio Custodio (1-4).

Staten Island took the lead in the seventh inning on a two-run home run by 1B Greg Bird (2-3). Bird also hit an RBI single in the eighth inning to make it 4-2.

TIGER TRACKS: The Tigers received IF Carlos De Los Santos from AA Erie along with Pickar and IF Edgar Corcino from AAA Toledo prior to Tuesday's game.

The Tigers and Yankees close out the series and the 2012 regular season on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. RHP Edgar De La Rosa (4-4, 3.19) gets the start for Connecticut while RHP Derek Varnadore (3-5, 3.71) takes the mound for Staten Island. The Connecticut Tigers are the Class-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers and play in the New York-Penn League.
