-SPIKES START SEASON-ENDING SERIES TONIGHT: The State College Spikes begin their final series of the 2011 regular season tonight as they face the Williamsport Crosscutters at Historic Bowman Field. This year's edition of the SawBuck Series currently stands at 6-3 in favor of Williamsport, with the Spikes still looking for their first road victory of the year against the Crosscutters. State College will also look to halt Williamsport's playoff hopes.
-LAST GAME: The State College Spikes used an aggressive offensive effort to build a 7-0 lead, and Nick Kingham made another stellar start on the mound to help the Spikes cruise to a 7-5 victory over the Batavia Muckdogs in the club's 2011 home finale on Thursday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Kingham, who was named the Spikes' Pitcher of the Year prior to the game, validated the honor with five one-hit, shutout innings in front of 5,343 fans. State College also swiped four bases as a team on the night.
-STEVENSON STARTS FOR SPIKES TONIGHT: Right-hander Trent Stevenson gets the ball to start for State College this evening. The right-hander makes his second straight appearance against Williamsport, having taken the loss on Sunday at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park after allowing six runs over 2 2/3 innings. Stevenson looks to halt a streak of three straight losses.
-GARNER ON MOUND FOR 'CUTTERS: Right-hander Ryan Sherriff is slated to start for the Crosscutters tonight. Garner was out for the month of July due to injury, but has racked up a 20:7 strikeout-to-walk ratio since his return. Last time out, Garner went four innings against the Spikes and allowed two unearned runs on six hits and two walks in the start.
-BELL LEADS NEW FACES FOR SPIKES: 2011 second-round draft pick Josh Bell and seven players from the Gulf Coast League Pirates have joined the Spikes. Pitcher Cesar Lopez and infielder Alen Hanson, two of the seven GCLers, each made their Spikes debut last night.
