Williamsport Crosscutters News Release

The Williamsport Crosscutters surrendered three runs in the top of the eighth to State College on Friday night, losing by a final score of 3-2 at Historic Bowman Field.

An early pitching duel kept both teams scoreless through four innings before Williamsport's Brock Stassi launched a solo home run to right in the fifth. Stassi's first professional round-tripper gave the Cutters a 1-0 lead. The home team picked up another run in the sixth, as Harold Martinez's RBI double scored Maikel Franco to make it 2-0.

That score held until the top of the eighth, when the Spikes used two hits and an error to load the bases with two outs. Matt Skirving then cleared the bags with a double to right, giving State College a sudden 3-2 lead.

State College held on for the victory, dropping the Cutters to 42-32. Williamsport falls to 2.0 games behind Brooklyn for the Wild Card lead, and 1.5 games behind Auburn, who was tied 1-1 with Batavia at time of writing.
