-SPIKES LOOK FOR SIXTH WIN IN A ROW: The first-place State College Spikes, winners of five straight, continue a six-game road trip tonight as they face the Batavia Muckdogs at Dwyer Stadium tonight. Tonight's game is the 61st meeting between the Spikes and Muckdogs over the past seven years. Batavia holds a 33-28 all-time series lead, and a 17-13 lead in games played at Dwyer Stadium. The Spikes have already matched last year's win total at Dwyer Stadium, where they went 1-4 in 2011.
-LAST GAME: The State College Spikes ran their winning streak to five with a 7-4 win over the Batavia Muckdogs last night at Dwyer Stadium. Walker Gourley racked up three RBI's in the game, including two in the eighth inning, when the Spikes scored four runs to break open a tie game. State College also took advantage of three Muckdog errors which led to four runs. Chris Diaz added two hits and a double, while Fresno State product Tom Harlan got his first professional win in relief.
-HEREDIA MAKES FIRST SPIKES ROAD START: 17-year-old right-hander Luis Heredia, the fifth-best prospect in the Pirates system according to Baseball America, makes his first start away from home in a Spikes uniform tonight. Heredia pitched four scoreless innings in his Spikes debut this past Thursday, allowing just one hit and two walks while striking out four and eliciting two double plays. The Mazatlan, Mexico native was 1-2 with a 4.75 ERA last year with the GCL Pirates.
-MUCKDOGS' CUDA GETS THE MOUND CALL: Right-hander Joe Cuda is slated to start for the Muckdogs tonight. Cuda, the Cardinals' 27th-round draft choice out of Eckerd (FL) College this year, also pitched four scoreless innings in his first outing of the year with Batavia, holding the Auburn Doubledays to four hits while striking out four. Cuda finished just four strikeouts shy of the Eckerd College career record held by former Major League reliever Jim Mecir.
-CARVAJAL CARVING OUT PLACE ON LEADERBOARD: Spikes infielder Jodaneli Carvajal is now tied for tenth in the New York-Penn League in batting average (.385) and third in on-base percentage (.484). His .692 slugging percentage puts his in a tie for fourth in the league, and the Bani, Dominican Republic native is the only NYPL player with three triples.
-SPIKE MARKS: Barrett Barnes is tied for the NYPL lead in times hit by pitch with 3, and is tied for the lead in steals with 4...State College as a team is now 13-for-15 in steal attempts, leading the NYPL in bases nabbed....Joan Montero's 2 wins and 0.00 ERA are both tied for the league lead...Tom Harlan is the one of three NYPL pitchers with 2 holds
