Auburn Doubledays News Release

AUBURN, N.Y. - The Auburn Doubledays (6-3) improved to 4-0 at home this season with an 8-3 win on Tuesday night over the Jamestown Jammers (3-6). The Doubledays have now won their last three games overall and are tied atop the New York - Penn League's Pinckney Division.

Auburn jumped on Jamestown early in this one and never looked back, as the Doubledays scored four runs in the first inning to take the lead for good. Jammers starter RHP Ryan Newell (0-1) hit two of the first three batters he faced, walking the other to load the bases with no one out. Doubledays 1B Estarlin Martinez grounded out to Newell to drive in the first run of the inning and put two in scoring position with one out.

Second baseman Tony Renda then delivered the decisive blow of the inning, doubling down the right field line to push both runners in scoring position across the plate and put Auburn ahead 3-0. Renda scored the final run of the inning on a single by LF Jordan Poole.

Jamestown answered right back in the top of the second with two runs of their own thanks to three walks from Doubledays starter LHP Blake Monar to load the bases with one out. A single by RF Cameron Flynn knocked home two runners and made it a two run game, 4-2.

That's as close as the Jammers would get, however, as Auburn stretched its lead to five in the bottom of the seventh on a bases clearing three-run double to center field by 3B Kayyan Norfork. Auburn tacked on one more in the bottom of the eighth on a fielders choice, allowing the Doubledays to cruise to an 8-3 win.

Getting the win for Auburn was RHP Derek Self (1-1), who pitched 2.2 scoreless innings allowing only two hits and striking out three. Monar totaled 4.1 innings, surrendering two runs on three hits and five walks. Newell took the loss for Jamestown as he let up four runs in three innings.

The Doubledays wrap up their three game series with the Jammers on Wednesday, June 27. Auburn will send RHP Pedro Encarnacion (0-0) to the mound for his second start of the year. He will square off against RHP Matt Milroy (0-0) for the Jamestown. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm. All Wednesday home games are "Make-A-Wish Wednesdays" presented by Sugarman Law Firm.
