-SPIKES FINISH OFF FIRST HOMESTAND OF THE YEAR: The State College Spikes take on the Auburn Doubledays tonight at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park in the final game of a three-game set between the two teams. The all-time series between the two teams is now tied, 26-26. State College will next head to Jamestown to start a six-game road trip with three games against the Jammers, then go to Mahoning Valley before coming back home.
-LAST GAME: The Spikes' bats were held in check by Doubledays pitching on Tuesday night, as the Spikes were held to three hits in a 9-0 defeat at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Michaelangel Trinidad was the lone State College player with an extra-base hit, doubling to right-center field in the eighth inning for his first two-bagger in a Spikes uniform. Derek Trentbecame the only Spike to notch hits in each of his first four games with a fourth-inning single. Wes Freeman added the other hit for State College.
-KINGHAM ON THE HILL FOR SPIKES: Right-hander Nick Kingham makes his second start of the year for State College this evening. Kingham got the ball to begin the season last Friday night in Williamsport, allowing five runs over three innings of work, with all runs scored against him in the third inning. The Pirates selected the Las Vegas, NV native in the fourth round of the 2010 MLB Draft.
-AUBURN SENDS DEMMIN TO THE MOUND: The Doubledays finish the three-game series against the Spikes with left-hander Ryan Demmin on the mound. Demmin went five innings against Batavia in the season opener, earning the win after allowing a run on three hits and three walks while striking out four.
-THREE NEW ARRIVALS JOIN SPIKES: 2011 draft picks Mike Jefferson (22nd round), Chris Lashmet (33rd round) & Alex Fuselier (21st round) were added to the Spikes' roster today.
