Jamestown Jammers News Release
JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - Terrence Dayleg had four RBI and the entire offense contributed as the Jamestown Jammers knocked off the Williamsport Crosscutters, 11-7, to extend their winning streak to three games at Diethrick Park Wednesday night.
In addition to the RBI, Dayleg had a double and a triple and two runs scored to pace a Jamestown attack that pounded out 15 hits. Rony Peralta and Eddie Rodriguez both had three singles, while Marquise Cooper added a double, single, two runs and two RBI. Alfredo Lopez chipped in two one-baggers and two runs, and Rand Smith belted his ï¬Ârst homer of the season.
The Crosscutters jumped on a Jamestown starter in the ï¬Ârst inning for the third consecutive day thanks to ï¬Âve base hits. Kelly Dugan, Maikel Franco and Witer Jimenez each had a RBI single in the inning to give the 'Cutters the lead, 3-0.
It would not take long for the Jammers would respond in the bottom of the ï¬Ârst inning.
Cooper started the inning with a single and Dayleg followed with his second triple of the season to get Jamestown on the board. Jobduan Morales grounded out to score the second run.
Jamestown's offense then struck with two-out lightning as the team scored six runs in the bottom of the second. Rodriguez and Peralta had back-to-back singles with one out. Cooper walked to load the bases with two outs then Dayleg cleared them with a double down the right ï¬Âeld line. A throwing error by Williamsport shortstop Taylor Black extended the inning and allowed Dayleg to score from second. Smith would make the 'Cutters pay for the miscue with a two-run shot over the left ï¬Âeld fence to make it 8-3.
However, Williamsport would not go down without a ï¬Âght as they struck for four runs in the top of the ï¬Âfth. Franco walked and Harold Martinez doubled to put runners at the corners before Aaron Altherr connected for a three-run homer to cut Jamestown's advantage to two. Jimenez added his second single and scored on a double by Bob Stumpo to inch the 'Cutters even closer; however, Tyler Topp would induce a ground out to end the inning.
The Jammers would plate three more runs in the sixth inning as the ï¬Ârst four batters reached. Rodriguez and Peralta triggered the offense again with consecutive singles then Alfredo Lopez had a bunt single to load the bases. Cooper connected for a two-run double. Another Crosscutter error allowed the third run to score and give Jamestown a four-run cushion.
Jamestown's bullpen would shut down Williamsport the rest of the way as they combined to throw 4.2 innings of scoreless relief. Tyler Topp earned the win after going 1.2 innings and striking out two.
Leonel Bastidas took the loss for the Crosscutters. He went ï¬Âve innings, allowed 10 runs, seven earned and struck out ï¬Âve. Jimenez paced the Williamsport attack with three singles, a run and a RBI, while Kyrell Hudson delivered a triple and a single.
After sweeping the Crosscutters, the Jammers will continue the six-game home stand with three games against State College starting Thursday at 7:05 p.m.
