-SAWBUCK SERIES ALL SQUARE: The State College Spikes start the fifth edition of the SawBuck Series tonight against the Williamsport Crosscutters. After four years of play, the Spikes and 'Cutters have each won 24 of the 48 matchups, with each team winning 12 of 24 home games in the series. In the all-time series runs total, however, Williamsport leads State College, 225-204

-LAST SEASON: In their first year under skipper Gary Robinson, the Spikes improved from an 18-56 mark in 2008 to play .500 ball in 2009. Brock Holt led the way offensively for State College, hitting .299 with six home runs and 33 RBI while earning a berth in the 2009 New York-Penn League All-Star Game. Spikes pitchers Zach Foster and Phillip Irwin also played for the National League squad in the Mid-Summer Classic, which took place at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. The Spikes also broke their all-time attendance mark twice in the final ten days of the season, with a record 5,757 fans filling the ballpark on August 30, when the Spikes took on Williamsport in the home finale.

-VON ROSENBERG MAKES 2ND CAREER START: Right-hander Zack Von Rosenberg goes to the hill for the Spikes on Opening Night. The 19-year-old made just one appearance of a single inning for the GCL Pirates in 2009 after being drafted in the sixth round out of Zachary (LA) High School. Von Rosenberg was also a member of four-time Lousiana state high championship teams, and went 11-1 as a senior in 2009.

-RODRIGUEZ STARTS THE YEAR FOR 'CUTTERS: Williamsport counters with right-hander Julio Rodriguez on the mound tonight. Rodriguez went 1-2 with a 3.08 ERA for the Gulf Coast League Phillies in 2009, striking out 56 and walking just 14 in 49.2 innings. The Bayamon, Puerto Rico native recoverd from an inauspicious start to his pro career, when he went 0-1 with a 12.19 ERA in seven GCL appearances in 2008. The Phillies' eighth-round draft pick in 2008, Rodriguez also attended the Puerto Rican Baseball Academy.
