LOWELL, MA - The Lowell Spinners, Class-A Affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, will kick off their 15th season of baseball in Lowell on Monday, June 21 against the Tri-City ValleyCats. First pitch is slated for 7:15 following Opening Day ceremonies.

The game will represent the LeLacheur Park debut of the Boston Red Sox 2010 No. 1 selection, Kolbrin Vitek, as well as supplemental first round draft pick, Bryce Brentz. Selected 20th overall in the 2010 First-Year Player Draft out of Ball State University, Vitek is slated to play predominately at third base.

Brentz, the 36th overall selection, will also be making his professional debut with the Spinners after a standout career at Middle Tennessee State.

"With Felix Doubront's start Friday night the Spinners will have had 41 former players go on to make their Major League Debuts," said Spinners Vice President and General Manager Tim Bawmann. "Kolbrin and Bryce each have a great deal of talent and we are thrilled they too will begin their journey to the big leagues in a Spinners uniform."

Prior to the scheduled first pitch the Spinners will celebrate some of their most memorable moments from the team's first 14 seasons in Lowell. To honor the achievements of the 2008 Stedler Division Championship Spinners, the first in franchise history to make the post-season, Red Sox Director of Player Development Mike Hazen will throw out a ceremonial first pitch.

"The 2008 season was such a memorable experience, not just for the players on the field, but the organization as a whole," said Bawmann. "To wait 13 seasons for that first taste of the post-season made this team all the more special."

Hazen will be joined by Lisa Armstrong and her son Paul, the winner of the Spinners Birth Night Promotion July 29, 1999. Lisa was the first of 30 expecting mothers to give birth in a promotion that gained the Spinners national media coverage.

"Over the years we've had many memorable promotions, but Birth Night always stands above the rest," said Bawmann.
