Jamestown Jammers News Release

Jamestown, New York - The Jammers misplayed Juan Aponte's 10th-inning single into three runs Friday night, allowing the winning run to score in a 7-5 loss to the Mahoning Valley Scrappers.

Aponte, who was 0-4 with four strikeouts heading into his at-bat in the top of the 10th, grounded a single up the middle to score Carlos Moncrief. Centerfielder Brent Keys let the ball skip under his glove toward the wall, allowing Wyatt Toregas to score the second run. Aponte headed for third base on the misplay and scored when second baseman Noah Perio's throw sailed into the dugout.

Aaron Senne hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 10th to make the score 7-5, but Wilfredo Gimenez struck out on three pitches to end the game.

This came after the Jammers squandered a one-run lead in the ninth on an errant throw by third baseman Aury Diaz. The error allowed Giovanny Urshela to score the tying run and force extra innings.

Mahoning Valley jumped out to a 2-0 lead on solo home runs by Wyatt Toregas in the first and fourth innings, but the Jammers rallied for three unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth. The Scrappers tied the game at 3-3 on a single by Kevin Rucker in the seventh, but the Jammers again scored an unearned run in the eighth to take a 4-3 lead before errors allowed the Scrappers to tie and eventually win the game.

Dale Dickerson (1-0) picked up the win for the Scrappers with three innings of relief, while Luis Chirinos (0-1) picked up the loss for the Jammers.
