-SPIKES LOOK FOR SPLIT VS. MUCKDOGS: The State College Spikes meet the Batavia Muckdogs tonight for the second time in 2011. The two teams will face each other six consecutive times, with three games at Dwyer Stadium followed by three at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Batavia leads the all-time series, 29-22, and has taken 14 of 25 matchups at Dwyer Stadium.
-LAST GAME: Matt Skirving bumped his doubles total up to seven with an RBI two-base hit, and Stetson Allie made another fine start, but the State College Spikes fell in the bottom of the ninth to the Batavia Muckdogs, 2-1, on Wednesday night at Dwyer Stadium. Skirving's smash to the right field wall scored Chris Lashmet to tie the game, 1-1, in the fifth inning. Allie struck out five batters in one outing for the second straight start, allowing Batavia's first run on three hits and two walks. The right-hander retired the last five hitters he faced before giving way to reliever Vince Payne, who added three scoreless innings for State College.
-COOPER TO DEBUT FOR SPIKES: 2011 23rd-round draft pick Jordan Cooper gets the ball for State College tonight in his first appearance as a professional. Cooper returned to the Spikes' roster earlier today. The right-hander went 3-2 with 1 save and a 3.62 ERA for the University of Kentucky this spring, and served as the Wildcats's Opening Day starter. Cooper, a native of Shelbyville, TN, was one of five UK players selected in this year's draft.
-McINNIS GETS MOUND CALL FOR MUCKDOGS: Right-hander Todd McInnis gets the ball for the Muckdogs tonight. McInnis, the Cardinals' 25th-round draft pick out of Southern Mississippi in 2011, has made four appearances and two starts on the year. The righty earned his first pro win in his last outing on Friday, allowing one run on three hits and a walk while striking out three Mahoning Valley batters over five innings of work.
